TACOS

Quite frankly, I find that ground beef in the pan isn’t terribly appetizing looking.
But the finished product is a pleasurable albeit messy experience.

I discovered something new today. Always learning!
Usually we do a combination, crispy “Old El paso” shells and the soft tortilla shells you can find in almost any grocery store these days.
So I stuck to the crispy ones but Added something more delectable for the usual soft shells.
You see, I was out and about with a gang of gals this morning and ended up at Lone Star Texas Grill.
This is not a restaurant that I frequent (or have ever been to for that matter)
Nevertheless, that is where I found myself at the lunch hour today.
Perhaps it is not on your regular rotation (as my husband likes to refer to the usual suspect restaurants)
However, I think you should know that they make their own fresh tortilla shells, all day long.
Yep!
6 for 2.99 and well worth the dollars. I didn’t have any for lunch but I watched the others eat them. Would you believe it,
my husband had requested tacos for dinner.
You may have already guessed but let me tell you, I added a six pack of these beauties to my bill, our lovely server delivered them nicely wrapped, to the table and I brought them home for dinner.
Delish!

These tortilla shells can be used for an assortment of southwestern dishes.
And one more thing I would like to say about the above mentioned restaurant
They serve you warm chips(and salsa) at no extra charge.
If I can get my people to darken the doorway I believe they will enjoy what they order.

I really want to talk to you for a minute about your taco seasoning.
Please listen up!

Until very recently I have added the old el paso seasoning mix to my shopping cart when preparing to make tacos.
Then one day I decided I really did not want to eat that powdered stuff from the package any more.
So,
I created my own seasoning mix.
It is so simple, really
Try it you’ll like it

OPTIONAL: 1 onion diced fine, 2 cloves of garlic, sauteed Remove from pan while you brown the meat
I pound of ground beef (will feed three hungry adults and four people with medium appetites)
add to hot pan (we have talked about this in the other meat recipes)
begin to brown
When it is partially cooked but not quite finished
add:
1/2 tsp. salt, pepper to taste
1 TBLSP. chili (more if you want more)
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. garlic chili sauce if you want it to be a bit “zippy”
stir
add 1/4 cup water
reduce heat to medium low
cover
PREPARE:
sliced lettuce
diced tomatoes
grated cheese

I like to put all of the “fixins” in small bowls in the middle of the table and let everybody have fun adding what they like
